The Kaltura Video Hosting Platform
Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) provides Kaltura to faculty for recording lectures; staff may request access through their supervisor.

Log In to Streaming@CPP
- Visit Streaming@CPP.
- Click the Guest icon/link near the upper right corner of your window.
- A drop-down menu will appear; select Login.
- Click the Guest icon/link near the upper right corner of your window.
- The DUO 2-Step Authentication will authenticate your session.
- The CPP Streaming Video homepage will re-appear with your name in the upper right corner.
Downloading and installing Kaltura Capture

- Select the Add New/Plus icon (+), located next to your name, near the upper right corner.
- A drop-down menu will appear, select; Kaltura Capture.
- The Kaltura Desktop Recorder will appear.
- For first time users, you will need to download it onto your Windows or Mac. Select either the Download for Windows or Download for Mac link underneath the question "Using Kaltura Capture for the first time?".
- Follow the download/installation prompts by clicking Next.
- Click finish when the download is complete to finish the installing process.
- To open Kaltura Capture, click the "Open Kaltura Capture" button when prompted.
- The Kaltura Capture video recorder controls will appear.
Teaching with Kaltura
Kaltura Capture allows you to record lectures on your computer and share them with your students.
Using Kaltura Capture to record your lectures

- Select the Add New/Plus icon (+), located next to your name, near the upper right corner.
- A drop-down menu will appear, select; Kaltura Capture.
- Click the "Open Kaltura Capture" button when prompted.
- The Kaltura Desktop Recorder interface will appear. Before recording:
- Familiarize yourself with the interface controls.
- Red button - Click the red button when you are ready to record.
- Screen - Click the drop-down arrow next to it to see how your screen appears to viewers.
- Camera - Click the drop-down arrow next to it to check your computer camera's functionality.
- Audio - Green indicates that your audio is working.
- If you will be using PowerPoint, open your presentation so that it appears on the screen.
- Familiarize yourself with the interface controls.
- Click the red button when you are ready to record your lecture/presentation.
- Note: Kaltura Capture starts recording after the three-second countdown.
- Recommended: Minimize the video controls/time elapse counter window in the lower right corner of your screen.
- To stop recording:
- If it is minimized, bring back the video controls/time elapse counter window in the lower right corner.
- Click the white square next to the red record button to stop recording.
- A confirmation window will appear; click yes to stop recording.
- Enter the informational details of your recording into the save window that appears:
- For the Title text field, enter a title for the recording.
- For the Description text field, enter a short description.
- Click the Save and Upload button.
- On your video Library window, an upload progress bar will appear at the top of a list of your previously-recorded videos.
- Once it's been uploaded, you can find all of your recorded content on your My Media page, which can be accessed from the drop-down menu under your profile name on the CPP Streaming homepage.
Embedding Kaltura content into your Canvas course
Using the Rich Content Editor
- Log into Canvas at CPP.
- Open your course.
- Open the Content Area (e.g., Page, Module, Assignment, etc.), where you wish to embed your video(s) and click Edit.
- Place your cursor where you would like to embed the content, then select Tools > Apps > View All, then select Kaltura Media Gallery from the list of All Apps.
- Locate the video you would like to add to Canvas, and click Embed.
- Click Save.
- Publish the Content Area and your CPP Kaltura-hosted video will be viewable by your students.
As a Module Item
- Log into Canvas at CPP.
- Open your course.
- Go to the Module where you wish to link your video(s) and click the + (plus) symbol in the Module Header.
- Select "External Tool" from the drop-down menu
- Select “Kaltura – Embed Media” from the list of External Tools
- Locate the video you would like to add to Canvas, and click Embed.
- Click Save.
- Make sure both the Module and the newly added Kaltura Module item are Published.
- Your CPP Kaltura-hosted video is ready to be viewed by your students.
Hosting Videos
Videos can be uploaded to any video hosting platform. However, we recommended that you use CPP's video hosting platform, Kaltura, or YouTube. Note: Regardless of the platform all videos need to be closed-captioned to meet accessibility requirements.

Uploading your media content to Kaltura
Kaltura accepts a wide variety of audio, video, and image file types. For a list of supported media file types, see Kaltura's knowledge base article on supported formats.

- Open/have ready the media file you would like to upload to Kaltura.
- Go to https://streaming.cpp.edu.
- Click Login (near the upper right corner of your window).
- Follow the DUO 2-Step Authentication process.
- Select the Add New/Plus icon (+), located next to your profile name, near the upper right corner of your screen.
- A drop-down menu will appear. Select Media Upload.
- The Upload Media window will appear. To upload your file, choose one of the following options:
- Drag and drop your file onto the Upload Media window:
- Select the file you want to upload.
- Left-click your mouse and hold the button down while moving/dragging the file to the Upload Media window.
- Upload/"drop" your file by releasing the left-click button on your mouse onto the words in the Upload Media window that say, "Drag & drop a file here".
- Or, click the button that says, "Choose a file to upload".
- From the file explorer window, locate and select the file you would like to upload.
- Click the Open button.
- Drag and drop your file onto the Upload Media window:
- You will see an upload progress appear on the "Fill out details" window:
- Enter the title of your file in the Name text field.
- Enter a short summary in the Description text field.
- Select the publishing schedule of your content for always or for a specific time frame.
- Select the privacy setting for your file:
- Private (Recommended) - Visible to you and your students.
- Unlisted - Visible to anyone with a link.
- Published
- Click the Save button.
- A confirmation message will appear when your upload has been completed.
- To view your newly-uploaded file:
- Click your profile name in the upper right corner. A drop-down menu will appear.
- Select My Media.
- Click your profile name in the upper right corner. A drop-down menu will appear.
- A list of your uploaded media content will appear.

Uploading content to YouTube
If you choose to upload your videos to YouTube, you must manually upload each video to a personal YouTube account. Visit Google's support page for instructions on uploading videos to YouTube.
