  1. Go to https://streaming.cpp.edu.
    1. Click the Guest icon/link near the upper right corner of your window.
      1. A drop-down menu will appear.  Select Login.
  2. A CPP-branded login page will appear:
    1. Enter your BroncoName in the user ID text field box.
    2. Enter your BroncoPassword in the password text field box.
    3. For security, the Cal Poly Pomona multi-factor authentication window may appear.  Select whether you would like a push notification sent to you or to enter a passcode.  See eHelp for more info or to set up your multi factor verification for faster processing in the future.

  3. The CPP Streaming Video homepage will appear with your name in the upper right corner.

 Downloading and installing Kaltura Capture

 To view CPP's MediaVision video tutorial of the instructions below, go to: https://streaming.cpp.edu/media/0_yl0jpx7p[1:23].

  1. Go to https://streaming.cpp.edu.
    1. Click Login (near the upper right corner of your window).
  2. A CPP-branded login page will appear:
    1. Enter your BroncoName in the user ID text field box.
    2. Enter your BroncoPassword in the password text field box.
  3. Select the Add New/Plus icon (+), located next to your profile name, near the upper right corner of your screen.
    1. A drop-down menu will appear.  Select Kaltura Capture.
  4. The Kaltura Desktop Recorder will appear.
    1. For first time users, you will need to download it onto your Windows or Mac desktop.  Select either the Download for Windows or Download for Mac link underneath the question "Using Kaltura Capture for the first time?".
    2. Follow the download/installation prompts by clicking Next.
    3. Click finish when the download is complete to finish the installing process.
  5. To open Kaltura Capture, click the "Open Kaltura Capture" button when prompted.
  6. The Kaltura Capture video recorder controls will appear.

Teaching with Kaltura

Kaltura Capture allows you to record your lectures on your personal computer and share them with your students.

Using Kaltura Capture to record your lectures

  1. Go to https://streaming.cpp.edu.
    1. Click Login (near the upper right corner of your window).
  2. A CPP-branded login page will appear:
    1. Enter your BroncoName in the user ID text field box.
    2. Enter your BroncoPassword in the password text field box.

  3. Select the Add New/Plus icon (+), located next to your profile name, near the upper right corner of your screen.
    1. A drop-down menu will appear.  Select Kaltura Capture.
    2. Click the "Open Kaltura Capture" button when prompted.
  4. The Kaltura Desktop Recorder interface will appear.  Before recording:
    1. Familiarize yourself with the interface controls.
      1. Red button - Click the red button when you are ready to record.
      2. Screen - Click the drop-down arrow next to it to see how your screen appears to viewers.
      3. Camera - Click the drop-down arrow next to it to check your computer camera's functionality.
      4. Audio - Green indicates that your audio level is working.
    2. If you will be using PowerPoint, open your presentation so that it appears on the screen.
  5. Click the red button when you are ready to record your lecture/presentation.
    1. Note: Kaltura Capture starts recording after the three-second countdown.
    2. Recommended: Minimize the video controls/time elapse counter window in the lower right corner of your screen.
  6. To stop recording:
    1. If it is minimized, bring back the video controls/time elapse counter window in the lower right corner of your screen.
    2. Click the white square next to the red record button to stop recording.
    3. A confirmation window will appear.  Click yes to stop recording.
  7. Enter the informational details of your recording into the save window that appears:
    1. For the Title text field, enter a title for the recording.
    2. For the Description text field, enter a short description.
    3. Click the Save and Upload button.
  8. On your video Library window, an upload progress bar will appear at the top of a list of your previously-recorded videos.
  9. Once it's been uploaded, you can find all of your recorded content on your My Media page, which can be accessed from the drop-down menu under your profile name on the CPP Streaming homepage.

Embedding Kaltura content into your Blackboard course

  1. Log into Blackboard at CPP.
  2. Open your course.
  3. Ensure your "Edit Mode" (upper-right corner) is turned on.
  4. Navigate to the Content Area (e.g., Course Documents, Assignments, etc.), where you wish to embed your video(s).
  5. Click Build Content, then select Kaltura Media.
  6. Click Embed next to the media you wish to add.
    1. Add a title to your media selection.
    2. Optional: Provide a description for your media selection.
  7. Click Submit.
  8. Your CPP Kaltura-hosted video is ready to be viewed by your students.

 

Hosting your videos

Videos can be uploaded to any video hosting platform.  However, it is recommended that you use CPP's video hosting platform, Kaltura, or YouTube. Note: Regardless of the platform that you use, all videos need to be closed-captioned to meet accessibility requirements.

Uploading your media content to Kaltura

Kaltura accepts a wide variety of audio, video, and image file types. For a list of supported media file types, see Kaltura's knowledge base article on supported formats.

  1. Open/have ready the media file you would like to upload to Kaltura.
  2. Go to https://streaming.cpp.edu.
    1. Click Login (near the upper right corner of your window).
  3. A CPP-branded login page will appear:
    1. Enter your BroncoName in the user ID text field box.
    2. Enter your BroncoPassword in the password text field box.

  4. Select the Add New/Plus icon (+), located next to your profile name, near the upper right corner of your screen.
    1. A drop-down menu will appear.  Select Media Upload.
  5. The Upload Media window will appear.  To upload your file, choose one of the following options:
    1. Drag and drop your file onto the Upload Media window:
      1. Select the file you want to upload.
      2. Left-click your mouse and hold the button down while moving/dragging the file to the Upload Media window.
      3. Upload/"drop" your file by releasing the left-click button on your mouse onto the words in the Upload Media window that say, "Drag & drop a file here".
    2. Or, click the button that says, "Choose a file to upload".
      1. From the file explorer window, locate and select the file you would like to upload.
      2. Click the Open button.
  6. You will see an upload progress appear on the "Fill out details" window:
    1. Enter the title of your file in the Name text field.
    2. Enter a short summary in the Description text field.
    3. Select the publishing schedule of your content for always or for a specific time frame.
    4. Select the privacy setting for your file:
      1. Private (Recommended) - Visible to you and your students.
      2. Unlisted - Visible to anyone with a link.
      3. Published
    5. Click the Save button.
    6. A confirmation message will appear when your upload has been completed.
  7. To view your newly-uploaded file:
    1. Click your profile name in the upper right corner.  A drop-down menu will appear.
      1. Select My Media.
  8. A list of your uploaded media content will appear.
  9. To put your content into Blackboard, see the video tutorial or set of instructions on this page, titled "Putting Kaltura content into Blackboard".

 

Uploading your content to YouTube

If you choose to upload your videos to YouTube, you will need to manually upload each video to a personal YouTube account. Visit Google's support page for instructions on uploading videos to YouTube.

Converting media to upload to Kaltura

  1. Fill out MediaVision's Media Conversion Request Form.

    Note: If you have more than one video to convert, you need only to complete one request form; all video uploads will be handled though the same request ticket.

  2. On the Media Conversion Request Form:
    1. Enter Digital File in answer to the question: What format is the media currently in?
    2. Enter Video Link in answer to the question: What format do you need the media converted to?
    3. For "Is there any additional information you would like to provide us?", copy and paste a link to your video file that allows MediaVision to access your video. Note: Video files can be shared via OneDrive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer. If you are unsure how to share your video files, explain on the form where your video files are currently stored, and MediaVision will provide you with further instructions.
    4. For closed-captioning, please select one of the following options:
      1. Requester will provide a transcript/captioning - Please attach to ticket below: Choose this option if you already have the video transcripts available.

        Note: This option expedites the upload of your video to Kaltura, as well as giving you the benefit of knowing that your closed-captions are correct, which is important if your lectures contain complex/technical terms.

      2. Captions needed - Content to be used in course instruction: Choose this option if you would like MediaVision to create closed-captions for your video.
